For such a high school loser who spent most of the entire time miserable, my 2 high school dances were rare respites from my loner, casual-dress existence. I never thought I'd have so much fun having a male companion to tow around and dance with, while bundled up in uncomfortable clothes and hair! But the "high school magic" thing finally kicked in, and I had a blast both nights, (especially since my "dates" were only friends!)
In October of my junior year, I was awarded my school ring for being a good little girl all those years. To celebrate, my class held our first formal dance, the Ring Dance. My date, (mother's best friend's son; the two of them played matchmaker,) flew all the way from Texas just to attend this thing with me; as my classmates said, I had the "dream date." I can only hope it was as fun for Paul as it was for me; it should prove to be a real "chick magnet" thing, shows that the guy is ready to make sacrifices.
I offset the two formal pics with one of my friend, Amanda and me, in a happy embrace after recieving our rings. She was one of my only friends there, who made those non-dance related moments go a lot smoother.
And finally, on June 5, 2002, I celebrated my prom. Matt is another long-time friend I've known since we used to sing in the same choir, and he was nice enough to brave my preppy school for a night. I had a lot of fun, laughing talking, dancing (especially group dances with the girls,) and he found a couple of guys to buddy around with at the dinner. I must say, I loved my hair that night; I had the idea to put it up (my main issue with my Ring Dance hair,) and even weaved extra fabric from my dress into it. And who said being short (requiring hemming) was only pain? :)
