During two weeks in the summers of 2000 and 2001, I headed down south to Virginia to take place in the UVA Young Writer's Workshop, where aspiring teenage writers like myself get the chance to work with seasoned authors, thereby honing our crafts. I had a blast both years, not only due to the writing exercises, revisions and literary creativity, but also being around people more like myself.
My first year there, I met Kate and Jessica, and not only were we all writers, but we were also both Jewish and midgets. It seemed only reasonable, therefore, to start a Jewish Midgets Club (the two of them actually started it; I was a late joiner and tallest of the group!) We never really did anything as a club, but managed to get a farewell picture our last day there...
These next 3 pics were all taken my second year, in 2001, and pertain more to writing. Picture #2 was my "writing space," where most of my thoughts and ideas spewed forth (thanks to the cans of Pepsi in the back!)
Picture #3 is me posing with my fiction instructor, published author, Kenny Marotta. He supported me through my constant love/hate relationships with the stuff I produced while there, and gave me some excellent advice on my story, "Farmland," which I am reading to the camp during our ending writer's cafe in picture #4.
